This is achieved via a free service which links your WiFi scales to the internet.

Your web dashboard is the extension of your WiFi scale.

Then, from your web browser, or from the free iPhone  app supplied by Withings,  you’ll be able to log on and see all your weight data.

And don’t worry, it’s totally confidential, so no one else will see how much you weigh!

Needless to say I’ll be checking out my weight graphs on my iphone, I haven’t quite got Withings working on my Android phone quite yet.

Fortunately I recalled that Withings body scales also work with the newer Android cellphone operating system.

Panic over.

All were suitably impressed. And I’ve lost weight!

I mean seriously. Does anyone really need their bathroom scales to interact with their  home computer or mobile phone for that matter?

Answer: Of course not!

So now that I’ve owned these Withings scales for a while do I think that they are still nothing but a gimmick?

Actually no. Quite the opposite in fact. I’d actually go as far as to say that I am starting too wonder why all weighing scales aren’t automatically connected to your home WiFi and reporting in your weight.

For that matter, why doesn’t your fridge liaise with your online grocery shopping list and order up the stuff you’ll need to save you the hassle?

Actually I believe that could be on its way next. Until then I’ll carry on allowing my bathroom scales to report into my PC, Mac at work and iPhone. And in turn do my best to shed those few extra pounds just in time got my fridge to stay automatically adding my favourite stodgy desert to my grocery via my WiFi too.

Around the bar at our holiday hotel, I’ve become quite a star. Yes I know what you’re thinking. I sound like a geek and all that. But what so many weight  conscious people are interested in is of course looking great around the pool.

And what the Withings scales give you is real motivation to succeed and do better with your own weight loss.

So I show people my Withings weight iPhone graphs and this seems to inspire people to get on with their own diet.

Actually I’m never quite sure whether people are more interested in losing weight or simply tracking their weight loss on iPhone widget thing.

When I said in my previous post that your weight is safe when using a wireless set of scales. I should add that you do still need to watch who and where you look at your weight app.

A worrying thought for some. But a quick check of the Withings operating instructions reveals that simple wifi protection via security settings is all you need to prevent that from happening.
